Raw Copy
With enough editing, any writer can look good in print. The real test comes when you look at someone's raw copy - the stuff that gets sent to the home office on deadline.

In an effort to offer samples of what you might expect to see when I turn in a finished story, I have included a short list of stories as they were originally submitted to VeloNews magazine in tight deadline situations.
(These files are all in MicroSoft Word format)

  • A race report from the 2004 Vuelta a España - The deadline and print schedule of this story posed a particular challenge, since by the time the issue hit the street, the three-week-long stage race would probably have changed completely from the time this piece was written.
  • A race report on the 2003 World Cyclo-cross Championships in Monopoly, Italy.
  • An interview with Davis Phinney soon after he learned that he has Parkinson's disease.
  • A "state of the organization" interview with USA Cycling CEO Gerard Bisceglia.
  • A story on the 2003 edition of the HEW Cyclassic in Hamburg - a story I wrote without actually attending the event.
  • Additional examples available upon request.
