"... they just turn into Republicans?!?!?!"

Actually, the old man was the only Democrat on Senator Simpson's staff and,
to his credit, Simpson said he really didn't care that his press secretary wasn't a Republican.

"I'm not hiring you for your opinons," he told dad.

(Which is probably a good thing, as is the fact that the good Senator didn't give dad's background all that much weight either....)
